Hi, I’m Emalie! I started CrossFit in January 2016. At the time, I was a long-distance runner and infrequent gym user. When I did hit the gym, my knees touched at the squat rack, which meant I often experienced knee pain. My coach fixed the issue on day one and it’s that level of one-on-one coaching, which improved my basic functionality as a human, that first got me hooked. The welcoming, motivated community and overall badassery came next – especially when I learned that gymnastics and clean and jerks were my jam.
A few weeks into CrossFit, a coach talked to me about a CrossFit promo that focused on the concept, “strong is beautiful.” The video featured female Games athletes talking about their body positivity, how they overcame societal stereotypes for the female body, and ultimately learned that strong is also beautiful. This concept completely rewrote my understanding of body positivity, especially as a 20-year-old female. I stopped caring about the scale or the mirror. What mattered was how I felt and how I performed. Empowering women to build confidence through strength and a healthy lifestyle is my greatest life passion.
I became a fulltime CrossFit coach in December 2019. My four years cemented my love for CrossFit and its incredible community, and I wanted to get more involved. I coach the morning classes and what gets me up at 4:00am is the people. I can’t wait to see the athletes that show up to work hard, and nothing gets me more motivated than seeing an athlete hit a new PR or improve an area of weakness.

Outside of the gym, I work in Public Relations for an agency in Seattle. I enjoy hiking, trail running, camping, soccer, wine, and chocolate. I love my dog Zayla and I’m originally from Michigan.
