Did I ever in my life think that I would try CrossFit and love it? The answer to that question is, no.

I’ve spent my entire adult life trying one fad diet or another, trying to consistently exercise and failing, all without a real direction, and just wanting to be skinny. One of my good friends was a member at CrossFit VU and she looked AMAZING, so I thought, “Why not try it?” The first day I stepped into the gym, I met Lex and Fallon and they warmly welcomed me and my step-son into the gym.

I couldn’t lift a barbell at all and couldn’t even squat. I hadn’t realized how weak I was until that day. The first few months at VU were mentally a struggle for me. Everyone else was so fit and looked amazing, I feel so frumpy, and struggled a lot of the movements others were making look so easy. However, I finally buckled down and mentally set my goal of coming to the gym a minimum of 3 days a week, and I did.

My goal, now, is to come every day, but sometimes life happens. I live a hectic life just like everyone else. I work full time, I’m married, have a step-son, not to mention the activities he’s involved in. But, I take that 1 hour at the gym for myself. It’s my “me time.” The other gym members are so encouraging too, which really helps, as we all become a little extended family. I can’t believe that I ever worried that they were thinking less of me because I was struggling with a barbell. Here I am almost 2 years later and it is very rare that I’m not at the gym 4-6 days out of the week. The best part of my day is when I have that 1 hour at the gym to work out every frustration from that day or the day before.

Regardless of what you do, how busy you think you are, if you want to achieve something bad enough, you will make the time. I treat the gym like an appointment with myself daily and that has allowed me to work harder towards the health/fitness goals that I have set for myself. I am so so thankful that I followed my friend’s advice and started my free trial at CrossFit VU. It is one of the best decisions I have ever made.
